For those of you anticipating the death of the Visa Black Card by Barclays Bank once and for all, the following news will come as disappointment After years of unsatisfactory reviews from card holders of the Visa Black Card, Barclays announced they would rebrand the card to a new platform called the “Luxury” Card.
Along with the rebrand, we’ve come to learn that as of October 01, 2015, the card will now be branded as a World Elite Master Card. It seems they just couldn’t do away with their cheesy coined “Black Card” label on the front of the card so that will remain the same. Unfortunately, card holders will now have to deal with the awkwardness of having the words “Luxury Card” labelled on the back of their cards.
The Visa Black Card will now be known as the Luxury Card, Black Card World Elite Master Card.
The annual fee will remain the same.
What are the so called new benefits? They include:
- 50% increase in point redemption value to 1.5% cash back
- secure chip technology
- $100 Annual Airline Credit for qualifying airline purchases
- $100 Global Entry application fee credit
- Access to MasterCard Priceless Cities and Priceless Golf Privileges
The following existing benefits getting axed include:
- lost luggage reimbursement
- roadside dispatch
- trip delay reimbursement
They’ll also be launching additional credit cards under the Luxury Card platform in the near future.
(We can hardly wait!)
